Infragistics has announced the latest release of its UX/UI platform, Infragistics Ultimate. The 24.1 release includes new features such as React code generation in App Builder, advanced Grids for major web frameworks, and better data visualizations.

“Whether you’re a solo developer or part of a large digital product team, Infragistics Ultimate offers the tools you need to create beautiful, high-performance apps more efficiently,” said Jason Beres, SVP of developer tools at Infragistics. “Our new iteration brings a host of new features that significantly improve, streamline and modernize app building.”

The low-code platform App Builder now has the ability to generate code for React, which simplifies the design-to-code process for developers building with that framework.

App Builder also now has the concepts of Variables, State Management, and Selection events, which will enable Master-Detail design patterns to be created within the platform, which wasn’t previously possible. Master-Detail shows two views: a list of records and a view that expands data about a single record.

Infragistics Ultimate 24.1 also includes several framework specific updates, such as:

  • Advanced state management, support for Angular 18, and a new Toolbar component in Angular
  • A Hierarchical Grid for handling data, Pivot Grid for data analysis, and a Button Group component in Blazor
  • A Hierarchical Grid, Tree Grid control, and a Button Group component in React
  • A Hierarchical Grid, Pivot Grid, and improved DockManager in Web Components

There is also now a Chart Highlight Feature, which allows developers to create interactive charts where users can highlight specific chart data points so that they can analyze complex datasets. According to Infragistics, this makes data visualization better for both developers and their end-users.

And finally, Infragistics Ultimate 24.1 includes support for .NET 8, which offers benefits like faster startup times, reduced memory usage, and enhanced runtime. It also includes Funnel Chart Highlighting in Windows Forms and WPF to “make complex quantitative data more digestible.”

The editor can now generate React code, which has been a highly requested capability by the community, according to Infragistics. With this addition, App Builder now covers all of the major web frameworks.

“Whether you are working with Angular, Blazor, or Web Components and now React, App Builder will generate code for pixel-perfect apps that are production-ready, performant, and maintainable,” said Jason Beres, SVP of developer tools at Infragistics.

Another new feature in this release is support for two-way data binding in the Select, Text-area, and Radio-group components. With this new feature, any changes to the UI are reflected in the underlying data model immediately and vice versa, which cuts down on manual updates and ensures data consistency across the app.

This release also includes improved Datasource notifications, which are notifications that allow developers to view changes that impact their application.

And finally, the latest version of App Builder also improves the onboarding process for new customers. A new Guest-access mode allows first-time users to explore the platform without having to sign-up for an account. Guests will be able to save all of the progress they have made by signing in with an account once they have decided to continue using the platform to build their apps.

A new platform called Slingshot is launching today to give companies a single platform for collaborating on data analytics, projects, content, and chat.

Slingshot was built by the Infragistics Innovation Lab. It is available as a desktop app, mobile app, or can be accessed via any web browser.

According to Infragistics, as companies scrambled to adapt to distributed working environments, they have adopted a number of tools but most have ended up with more than they needed and workers are having to constantly switch between several apps.

Slingshot aims to bring everything together in one place so that this switching isn’t needed. It includes native chat functionality, content-sharing, and a data catalog.

Teams can connect Slingshot to multiple data sources, such as databases and spreadsheets, SaaS systems, and Big Data and cloud data products. It also integrates with financial, marketing and sales tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, Marketo, and Google Console, as well as social media channels and business tools like Quickbooks or Microsoft Dynamics.

Teams can use Slingshot to create data visualizations from multiple sources. They can then start discussions around those insights directly within Slingshot through chat or by commenting on specific dashboards.

“Over the past 30 years we’ve developed a unique workplace philosophy for building trust, maximizing team results and using data to iterate and make informed decisions. This philosophy is now the backbone of Slingshot,” said Dean Guida, founder of Slingshot. “We’ve built a workplace where teams can get work done in the digital realm, during an especially critical time when organizations are reshaping their workplaces to be productive for in-person, remote and hybrid teams.”

Gartner predicts that by 2026, 80% of technology products will be created by people not categorized as technology professionals. The reasons for this have been discussed at length for some time now, and companies are now seeing the value in these tools as a way to accelerate development.

According to Jason Beres, SVP of developer tools at Infragistics, low code has significantly changed the way design and development teams work together, for the better.

Before things like WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editors, design teams and development teams worked in silos, with design teams working in tools like Sketch, Adobe XD or Figma and then handing their designs off to development teams to write the actual code in their IDE of choice, like Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code. Now, developers can use WYSIWYG tools to lay things out visually like a designer, while at the same time, including the design files from design teams, he explained.

Beres finds that using low code tools that bring together the typical deliverables of a design process, including visual design assets like artboards and prototypes, and automatically marrying those with the tools that developers use, instead of relying on the siloed designer-developer handoff, ensures applications will be delivered faster and with fewer bugs. He explained that the handoff can often be expensive, resulting in errors and producing inconsistent results.

“Everyone hopes that whatever is delivered by the development team after the UX design team completes its work looks pixel-perfect and behaves as expected, but nine times out of 10, it won’t. We lean too heavily on the developers to somehow become experts in new web frameworks and technologies that are new to them (or just new in general), including CSS, responsive web design, HTML layouts, and more, and be able to translate that design perfectly into what comes out as the end product,” said Beres.

With Gartner predicting that by 2026, 80% of applications will have been built by non-developers, how do developers feel about these tools? According to Beres, they’ve embraced them warmly, because they allow developers to eliminate mundane tasks that slow them down and are boring to do, as well as alleviate complex screen work like layout, screen design, and CSS.

“We are removing the complexity of responsive layout, theming, and branding because it’s all point and click and drag and drop in a WYSIWYG, driven by a design system and backed by rich UI components” he explained.

Beres believes that companies who don’t embrace these tools will be left behind, and that companies are recognizing that it is more cost-effective to use these low-code tools, and to skill-up existing and new developers instead of requiring them to handle all of the mundane, error-prone and repetitive tasks that typically take place in the software development process.

According to Beres, a lot of these repetitive tasks that can be replaced by low-code tooling include things where there are established patterns, such as data access.

“Today, tools can connect into back ends and can automate and generate tens to thousands of lines of code in seconds,” he said. “And that code is testable, editable, production ready. Developers no longer need to actually write this code, as the machine can do it faster and better, while at the same time not leaving the developer out of the process to modify or enhance the code. This sort of code-automation for modern web apps needs to include user interface code, more interaction code, and for real time and cost savings, should  include the output from the UX design process.  Humans don’t need to actually write every line of that code, because low-code tooling can do it for you.”
