A number of companies have announced major changes to their executive leadership last month. Here are a couple of highlights:

Veeam appoints Niraj Tolia as new CTO

Tolia is joining the company after being CEO and co-founder of the data management startup, Alcion, which was acquired by Veeam earlier this month. Before co-founding Alcion, he also founded Kasten, which was previously acquired by Veeam as well.

At Veeam, he will lead the product strategy for Veeam Data Cloud and will work closely with the company’s chief product officer, Anton Gostev.

“Niraj is one of those rare individuals who not only understands where the market is headed but also possesses the skills and vision to bring that future to life for our customers,” said Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam. “He has already demonstrated this with the creation of Kasten, which has become the #1 solution for Kubernetes data resilience since being acquired by Veeam in 2020. His proven track record, combined with the explosive growth of Veeam Data Cloud – the fastest growing product in Veeam’s history – creates a tremendous opportunity for Veeam to redefine the market once again for data resilience.”

HackerOne announces appointment of Kara Sprague as new CEO

Kara Sprague will be replacing the current CEO of HackerOne Marten Mickos, who will be transitioning into a strategic advisory role.

Sprague brings with her over 20 years of experience leading technology companies, most recently as executive vice president and chief product officer of F5. She’s also worked at McKinsey & Company, Oracle, and Hewlett-Packard. Additionally, from 2016 to 2022 she served on the board of Girls Who Code and now is on the board of Trimble

“As CEO, I plan to expand our platform capabilities in service to enterprise customers, invest in and grow our community of security researchers, and continue to foster trust with customers, partners, and the researcher community,” said Sprague. “I was drawn to HackerOne because of its market leadership position in addressing evolving cyber threats. I look forward to joining forces with HackerOne and its community of researchers in the mission to empower the world to build a safer internet.”

Baran Erkel joins UserTesting as chief strategy officer

Leveraging over 20 years of experience driving corporate strategy, including mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships, Erkel will work to develop UserTesting’s long term strategy and expand its market presence.

Previously, he was the senior vice president of corporate development and strategy for Nintex, where he led the company through five acquisitions over a seven year period. Before that he also worked at companies like Citrix and Accenture.

Eric Brüggemann named new CEO of Code Intelligence

Brüggemann has been at the company for the past year, first joining as managing director and chief operating officer. As CEO he will lead the company through its next phase of growth, which will entail expanding into more markets and working with leadership to shape product vision.

The previous CEO and co-founder Sergej Dechand will now take on the role of chief evangelist for the company.

Before joining Code Intelligence, Brüggemann was the chief of staff at Thinkproject and prior to that he was a project leader at Boston Consulting Group.

Entrust makes several key leadership changes

The identity and security company Entrust announced the appointment of Michael Klieman as global vice president of product management for digital security solutions and Parag Patel as global vice president of sales for digital security solutions.

“Michael and Parag join us at a critical time in the digital security solutions landscape, where the threats, risks, and opportunities have never been higher for our customers and partners,” said Bhagwat Swaroop, president of digital security solutions at Entrust. “Entrust solutions are designed to foster trust through strong identities so that enterprises can securely connect customers and partners to their ecosystems. Parag and Michael bring decades of tech leadership and deep cybersecurity experience in cybersecurity and cryptography-centric solutions. Their drive for growth, precision, and collaborative styles are a great fit for our people-first culture at Entrust. We’re excited to welcome both leaders to the Entrust community.”

UserTesting has announced the latest release of its platform that helps developers gain insights into their customer base.

The platform now offers branching logic, which allows developers to create surveys that adapt questions based on responses to previous questions.

Image tasks and matrix questions have also now been added as new question types in surveys, providing new ways for customers to give feedback.

This release also adds a new tool called Screener guidance that provides real-time suggestions on screening questions so that developers can improve the targeting of the survey before launching it, so that they can ensure they’re reaching the right people.

Additionally, UserTesting now integrates with Confluence whiteboards, allowing developers to share UserTesting videos, highlight reels, and clips directly within Confluence whiteboards.

The company also revealed that it will soon be adding a new tag management capability to provide developers with even more control over grouping insights together and finding key themes.

“UserTesting is committed to revolutionizing how our customers build products and experiences. By continually enhancing our platform, we enable businesses to achieve success through greater understanding of their customers,” said Michelle Engle, chief product officer at UserTesting. “Our latest release focuses on enhancing the customer feedback process, making it more efficient and effective. By integrating advanced AI capabilities and improving survey flexibility, we empower our customers to gather deeper insights and make more informed decisions.”

UserTesting introduced several enhancements to its Human Insight Platform, which is a user experience testing platform that allows developers to see and hear how users are interacting with a product. The latest updates include a new way to find niche audiences, new integrations with Canva and FullStory to enhance the value of human insight, and a new service called Insights Services that enables organizations to outsource research to UserTesting experts for efficient and cost-effective research and support.

UserTesting has introduced a Niche Audience Recruitment feature that enables users to gain valuable insights from unique and traditionally difficult-to-reach groups. This feature allows developers to easily identify important audiences using advanced tools, access perspectives from contributors who were previously hard to engage, and ensure quality by relying on insights from carefully vetted and trusted contributors.

These advancements simplify the process of managing specific audience needs, helping businesses create solutions that align with their goals more effectively.

UserTesting is introducing new integrations with the third-party platforms FullStory and Canva. The FullStory Integration enables users to connect UserTesting’s user feedback with FullStory’s detailed user session information, aiding in the prioritization of digital optimizations that have the most significant impact on the customer journey.

“FullStory’s platform combines rich analytics, robust visitor session detail, and collaboration tools to help answer critical questions, understand issues, and uncover new conversion opportunities,” said Will Schnabel, SVP of Alliances and Partnerships at FullStory. “By integrating with UserTesting’s Human Insight Platform, teams can delve deeper into customer journeys, gain a holistic understanding of their audiences, and make data-driven decisions that significantly impact the business.”

The Canva Integration allows users to seamlessly incorporate video-based insights from UserTesting into Canva assets, promoting and sharing key insights throughout the organization to enhance understanding of the customer.

In addition, UserTesting’s Insights Services are a part of the company’s professional offerings, providing a cost-effective way for organizations to outsource research to their in-house experts. These customized research solutions aim to facilitate business growth and informed decision-making while increasing research capacity and expediting insights delivery. Furthermore, Insights Services ensure data security, risk mitigation, and efficient research management.

After a recent investigation surfaced regarding Yahoo’s network hack that resulted in at least 500 million user accounts being stolen, Yahoo released a statement on its Tumblr to discuss what actions it’s taking to protect its users.

To start, Bob Lord, chief information security officer of Yahoo, wrote in an e-mail that the company is notifying potentially affected users. The e-mail will be available here starting at 11:30 a.m. Pacific time.

Yahoo is asking affected users to change their passwords immediately and adopt an additional form of account verification. Yahoo also invalidated unencrypted security questions and answers so they cannot be used to access an account, wrote Lord.

Yahoo is also working with law enforcement, but so far the investigation found no evidence that a state-sponsored actor involved in the hack is still in Yahoo’s network. Lord recommended users look through this list of security measures to make sure they are protected, especially with the increasingly connected world that is bringing about new and sophisticated hacks.

Slice of life developer comic book hits Kickstarter
People can read about the day-to-day life of developers in picture form with CommitStrip’s newest book called “CommitStrip—Rise of the Coders.” This is the group’s first book available in English, and it includes a new selection of its best comic strips.

Over the years, CommitStrip has spent time drawing and writing about the lives of developers and how the software community’s rapid growth contributes to how software and code infiltrates society, according to CommitStrip’s Kickstarter page.

The book will have “the best” 80 of the 600 strips published over the last three years, wrote CommitStrip, and there will be five new strips as well. Also, there is a 10-page story titled Rise of the Coders, along with a surprise.

The group’s Kickstarter campaign has already surpassed its goal of US$14,976.

Citus MX lets user’s scale out PostgreSQL tables
Citus Data announced the private beta of Citus MX, which builds on the Citus extension for PostgreSQL, and lets users scale PostgreSQL tables across multiple servers.

Citus MX gives users the ability to write or query distributed tables from any node, and it lets users remove the necessity of interacting with a primary node in a Citus cluster, wrote Marco Slot, software engineer at Citus Data.

One major feature of Citus MX is its improved uptime through redundancy.

“While high availability reduces the length of downtime, should a node fail, your entire cluster would still be unavailable for this minute while the failover was happening,” wrote Slot. “With Citus MX, as long as a node is available, the data on it can be read or written even if other nodes are down.”

Citus MX is available on the Citus Cloud.

InVision and UserTesting partner to bring collaboration to platform
InVision and UserTesting are partnering to connect designers, developers, researchers and product managers with their users early in the development cycle.

The new integration allows users to send an InVision prototype directly to UserTesting to hear what users have to say. By testing concepts this way, it reveals problems or bottlenecks in design or development. With the integration to UserTesting, InVision users can identify pain points, answer questions, and validate new concepts. It can also help web and app teams make sure their designs are right before they start coding, wrote Claire Dansey, marketing manager of customer engagement at UserTesting.
