SmartBear, a provider of software quality and visibility solutions, has integrated the load testing engine of LoadNinja into its automated testing tool, TestComplete. Testers can now re-use their functional tests and run them as a load test in a single workflow, optimizing efficiency and productivity, enhancing test coverage, and reducing costs – solving the pain of needing point solutions to run a complete UI testing suite.

“By integrating load testing capabilities into TestComplete, SmartBear is empowering its customers to enhance software quality through streamlined testing workflows,” said Prashant Mohan, Senior Director of Product Management at SmartBear. “With the ability to automate both functional and load testing from a single location, our customers can now conduct thorough and efficient testing, ensuring their applications perform reliably under heavy loads.”

This integration allows testers to quickly convert existing functional tests into load tests, providing a faster and more efficient way to prepare your application for peak usage. Testers can also leverage AI-driven self-healing featuring SmartBear HaloAI to ensure that load tests remain relevant and effective, even as the application evolves. With this integration, testers can now automate a full-scale UI test suite composed of essential testing types, including functional testing, visual testing, device cloud testing, and load testing, giving teams exceptional testing coverage within a single tool.

“We can execute tests from our end users’ point of view, unlike other tools that can’t accurately understand the differences from yesterday’s build to today’s,” said Alexei Karas, software test automation professional. “Self-healing with TestComplete also makes load testing easier by enabling us to check, verify, and guarantee that my load tests recorded in the past still correspond to today’s reality.”

SmartBear has also launched test data generation featuring HaloAI. This new offering provides additional test data generation capabilities, delivering a more advanced and customizable solution. With the power of HaloAI, users can put their growing LLM skills to work, inputting simple-text commands to generate tailored datasets that better suit their specific testing needs. This approach not only streamlines the creation process but also ensures the security of customer data by generating it directly within TestComplete, eliminating the risk of using external LLM tools. Testers can quickly and easily create realistic and diverse datasets, enhancing the quality and effectiveness of their data-driven tests.

SmartBear has announced that its API development platform SwaggerHub has been integrated with Stoplight, an API design company that SmartBear acquired last summer.

According to the company, Stoplight helps simplify the API development process by providing an intuitive interface for design. This makes API design accessible to non-technical users and streamlines the process for technical users.

“SmartBear’s mission is to empower customers with the solutions and capabilities they need to drive quality and efficiency across development teams,” said Sean Butler, vice president of product management at SmartBear. “Integrating Stoplight’s advanced API design features into SwaggerHub highlights this commitment to enhance the API development lifecycle, particularly critical now with the onslaught of AI-related APIs. Customers can expect multiple benefits, including a seamless developer experience from API design to deployment,” said Sean Butler, vice president of product management at SmartBear.

This follows the platform’s recent integration with the API style guide enforcer Spectral, which provided API authors with new features to help ensure API quality, such as advanced linting, style guide enforcement, and a user-friendly design interface. In addition to improving overall API quality, these features also help ensure a consistent API portfolio and reduce potential errors.

Later this year the company also plans to incorporate Prism into SwaggerHub, which will allow developers to create mock servers based on their API definitions.

Additionally, SmartBear revealed its intention to reorganize its product portfolio of over 20 solutions into three categories: API Hub, Test Hub, and Insight Hub.

“As SmartBear realigns its product offerings into intuitive solution hubs, the integration of Stoplight’s tools into SwaggerHub exemplifies our dedication to solving the real-world challenges faced by our customers. The journey towards improved API design, flexible documentation, and reliable APIs is a collaborative effort. The software testing company SmartBear has announced that it has integrated its AI-powered visual regression testing tool VisualTest with its UI test automation tool TestComplete

SmartBear believes this new integration will make visual regression testing more accessible. Testers can run visual tests and then compare screenshots across runs, without needing to write automation scripts.

“Historically, visual testing has been difficult to automate due to false positives that create extra manual work,” said Prashant Mohan, senior director of product management at SmartBear. “Now our new codeless AI solution adds human-like capabilities to automate visual testing in an efficient way. It can catch visual bugs that functional tests miss while also filtering out false positives, maximizing workflow efficiency.”

VisualTest highlights only the changes in an application, while filtering out expected changes and ignoring false positives. Testers can then compare changes to baseline images to fix any issues.

TestComplete also comes with an add-on called Intelligent Quality that uses AI to reduce test maintenance and accelerate test creation. It provides capabilities like self-healing tests, OCR, and ML-based visual grid recognition.

Both VisualTest and TestComplete also integrate with BitBar, which is a mobile and web testing solution. The three work together to reduce context switching when testing across visual, web, and real devices.

The testing company SmartBear has announced updates to three of its products, with the goal of improving visibility into the software development life cycle.

“We continue to put our customers at the center of our strategies and deliver on their needs by expanding our product portfolio through innovative enhancements to our popular solutions used by millions of developers, testers, and software engineers worldwide,” said Dan Faulkner, chief product officer at SmartBear.

The first update is in BugSnag, a developer-focused monitoring platform. Earlier this year the company had acquired Aspecto, which is an OpenTelemetry-based company, and now SmartBear has integrated its distributed tracing capabilities into the BugSnag platform.

By adding distributed tracing to its platform, SmartBear is providing its customers with the ability to monitor errors and correlate them across traces, logs, and metrics to determine the root cause.

Next up, it launched a developer portal for finding SmartBear APIs within the SwaggerHub Portal, which is a marketplace for finding APIs that the company launched in August. According to the company, this new portal will help companies more quickly get started with SmartBear products.

SmartBear also released updates to the test management solution Zephyr Squad Cloud. New features include a test case library, n-level folder structure for test cycles, reordering of test executions, enhanced test cycle details, and advanced reporting of test execution results.

“Whether you are a seasoned QA professional, a developer, or a project manager, this update will make your testing process faster, more efficient, and more user-friendly than ever before,” SmartBear wrote in a blog post.

SmartBear launched SwaggerHub Portal, a new feature for customizing consumer-facing documentation to promote API adoption.

This developer-centric tool enables API providers to create personalized landing pages, offering consumers comprehensive resources for easy API implementation. The SwaggerHub Portal integrates with SwaggerHub, a popular API design and documentation tool, as well as Explore, an API client supporting REST and event-driven specifications.

This integration also allows teams of any size to explore, design, test, and document APIs all in one place, aiming to enhance the developer experience.

“SmartBear is focused on API-first development, helping developers to solve their challenges when it comes to design, documentation, testing, and adoption,” said Sean Butler, vice president of product management at SmartBear. “With a growing number of APIs available, providers need help with discoverability and onboarding. To address this challenge, we are excited to launch these two innovative milestones – SwaggerHub Portal and its integration with SwaggerHub Explore – as we advance toward the SmartBear API Developer Lifecycle platform to deliver the best developer experiences in the industry.”

SlashData found that more than 90% of developers use APIs regularly, with 69% relying on third-party APIs. However, successful API implementation depends on discoverability. SwaggerHub Portal addresses this by enhancing visibility and adoption, enabling providers to easily onboard consumers for a better customer experience.

SwaggerHub’s integration with Portal allows developers to generate documentation from their API designs with zero context switching. This minimizes time to market, making their APIs easy to discover and adopt. Development teams, whether code-first, design-first, or hybrid, can generate documentation from Explore, no longer needing to start from scratch when documenting, SmartBear explained.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — July 18, 2023 — SmartBear, a leading provider of software development and visibility tools, released real user monitoring (RUM) in BugSnag, the company’s observability and application stability solution, that delivers production visibility insights to developers as they monitor and improve their applications with digital experience monitoring. These new capabilities enable application teams to rapidly identify and prioritize performance issues in production with the context required for faster resolution and quicker application development.

“Performance issues in mobile and web applications can seriously impact end user satisfaction and ultimately the successful adoption of your product,” said Anthony Bryce, Vice President of Product Management at SmartBear. “To be successful, development teams must continually observe and optimize the performance of their applications. As developers take on more responsibilities to understand the impact of poor user experiences, we are leveraging our strength in error monitoring to provide modern development teams with 24/7 performance monitoring of their applications with real-world data to identify, prioritize, and resolve performance issues with confidence.”

Gaining cost-effective and scalable insights into application performance for organizations of all sizes is a consistent challenge in the developer observability space. The data required can be difficult to determine and costly to store. To avoid high and often surprising costs, BugSnag with RUM dynamically samples performance data on a daily basis so development teams can control their operational costs and never unintentionally go over the data volume in which they choose to pay. The way BugSnag collects data is also OpenTelemetry compliant, enabling customers to utilize the collected data with other OTel-based observability solutions.

“BugSnag with RUM gives valuable insight into the real-world performance of Concepts, an award-winning app used by millions of creative people worldwide as a flexible space for thinking, planning, and drawing, across the many devices and platforms we support,” said David Brittain, CEO at TopHatch. “Ensuring that our app is fluid and responsive is important to our customers, and this is a powerful tool to help deliver on that promise.”

BugSnag with real user monitoring provides an intuitive UI with dashboard overviews of key metrics such as app start up times, page loads, and web vitals. It also provides timeline views to identify performance trends, span filters by stage, release, and more, as well as waterfall views of performance traces to zero in on specific performance issues. Its rapid identification and resolution of performance issues means higher performing apps, increased customer engagement, and customer loyalty.

“Given several factors, including demand for improved user experience and increasing complexity of software systems, the observability market continues to evolve,” said Stephen Elliot, Group Vice President, I&O, Cloud Operations, and DevOps at IDC. “As developers and platform engineering teams take on more responsibility for service reliability, those teams need developer observability tools that give them the visibility they need to improve customer experience in a way that supports modern software development practices.”

SmartBear, provider of software development and visibility tools, announced a new tool that will help developers more easily discover visual bugs and defects so that they can deliver applications and websites with their intended look intact.

VisualTest utilizes AI in its regression testing to discover these visual errors. It also provides visibility into development components across the software development life cycle.

It automatically takes screenshots of the application, compares it to previous versions, and highlights any visual changes that are present.

Because VisualTest makes use of AI, it is able to track several types of visual changes while ignoring false positives.

According to SmartBear, existing visual testing methods are “unreliable, time consuming, and cumbersome to maintain,” and applying AI is necessary to solve these common problems.

The new tool integrates with BitBar, which is SmartBear’s mobile and web testing tool. SmartBear believes that integration will help reduce the need to context switch when doing tests.

In addition to being integrated with BitBar, VisualTest is compatible with Cypress, Selenium Python, and Selenium Java.
